Fire Safety Regulations January 2023

Oct 26, 2022

Firefighting and Fire Evacuation Lifts Update.

The Fire Safety Regulations will make it a legal requirement, from 23 January 2023, for responsible persons who manage high-rise residential buildings to check lifts that are used by fire-fighters or fire evacuation.

If you are the responsible person, what do you have to do?

From January, you must undertake monthly checks of the firefighting/fire evacuation equipment and record them. This is applicable to:

  • any lifts in high-rise buildings that are designed to be used by fire-fighters and have controls which allow them to take control of the lifts.
  • all evacuation lifts regardless of building height

You must also notify the local fire and rescue service when a lift for the use of firefighting or evacuation is either unavailable due to a fault or breakdown and will be unavailable for use for more than 24 hours or returned to operation following being unavailable.

Knowsley Lift Services are helping lots of client identify what lifts need testing and how they are tested, plus how to complete the checklists.
